The island of St. Croix is roughly 80 square miles and is separated from the other US Virgin Islands by an oceanic trench that plunges over 10,000 feet deep.  Temperatures here average 78°F/26°C with easterly trade winds.

Unlike other islands in the Lesser Antilles chain, volcanic activity did not create our island.  Instead, we are an "upheaval" island, caused by the spreading of the mid-ocean ridge in the Atlantic.  As a result, we are the most eco-diverse island in the Caribbean.  The east end of the island is a desert, complete with cacti, while the western portion of the island is covered by a rainforest.
